GRUNTS Release Date Nears: Sneak Peek Now Available.

Massive Movie Set to Conquer Porn World

Today Raging Stallion uploaded to Youtube a sneak peek of its 40-scene military epic, a movie event that will dominate the gay porn world for the next several months. GRUNTS, directed by Chris Ward and Ben Leon, is not only Raging Stallion's most extravagant project to date, but with a budget that exceeded a quarter million dollars, GRUNTS is one of the biggest gay porn blockbusters ever produced. Filmed in late summer, GRUNTS has been in edit for the past eight weeks--the 40 or so sex scenes run almost 12 hours, with an additional 8 hours of special features spread across three additional discs.

The GRUNTS trailer on Youtube is the first footage of the film to be made public. The two-minute piece vividly demonstrates the scope of the project. "I don't think there has ever been anything like it in porn," said RSS president Chris Ward. "It has the look and feel of a Hollywood film. The actors are excellent, the sets stunning, and the sex is over-the-top. I have no doubt that this is the movie I will be remembered for!" GRUNTS is scheduled for a retail release on Ragingstallion.com, GayDVD.com, and TLAvideo.com on December 1.

Three Contract HIV During Bareback Shoot

LONDON - Three gay actors have been diagnosed with HIV after participating in a bareback porn shoot here, British gay entertainment and culture magazine Boyz reported in its Oct. 18 issue.According to Boyz reporter Karl Ryan, the three unidentified young men, ages 18, 21, and 26, contracted the infection as a result of unprotected sex with a fourth actor who didn't realize he was HIV-positive until three days after shooting wrapped. Ryan reported the movie director had the other three actors undergo a rarely used 48-hour DNA screening that indicated they also now bear the infection.

The standard HIV antibody test in London requires a three-month waiting period between time of infection and accurate results, according to Riley. At least one gay adult entertainment producer has begun screening all performers with the 48-hour test before allowing them to perform in bareback scenes, but some health professionals feel the test is unreliable because it returns a high percentage of false-positive results and requires a standard antibody test for confirmation of infection.

The Awards Season Begins!

The porn award cycle began again last week with the David Awards in Berlin. This marks the beginning of a series of awards shows that culminate in Chicago on Memorial Day Weekend with the Grabby Awards. We are pleased to report that Fist And Shout took Best Fetish film at the David's this year, hopefully signaling a good awards season this year for Raging Stallion Studios. Fist and Shout, a two part DVD, was directed by my protege, David Hempling. David also does all of our DVD work here at RSS. Congrats David! It is a well-earned award!

This year we will be watching several venues for awards and I thought it would be fun to make a list of all the top studios and keep track of who wins what--perhaps by next May we can really say which studio dominated the porn world in 2007. Here is a list of the awards shows we will track;

1. David Awards. Held in Berlin during the international Venus Fair (the European equivalent of the AVN show in Las Vegas), the David Awards are somewhat controversial in that they include bareback movies for consideration. This year, Treasure Island Media took the prize of Best US Studio, causing an outcry from the likes of Chi Chi LaRue and other studio heads.

2. The Mannet Top 100 list. This list is published every year by Butch Harris, owner / operator of Mannet.com. The movies are not ranked in order, but listed alphabetically. Inclusion on this list is quite desirable. Expect a flurry of press releases the day of the announcement as studios brag about how many movies they have on the list.

3. The Cybersocket Awards. These trophies are a bit more web focused, but studios are honored in categories such as "best studio." Now that the web has become a critical part of every studio operation, awards such as "Best Membership Site," "Best Affiliate Program," etc, are all now eagerly sought after by the major studios.

4. The WeHo XXX Awards. These are the people's choice awards of the gay porn industry and are held in West Hollywood. Last year was the first show---every indication is that they will be held again. This is now the Los Angeles area's only award show.

5. The Hard Choice Awards. Given each year in December by X-Factor magazine, these include the usual categories of best studio, best picture, etc, but also include awards for best butt, hottest sex, etc. These awards have a long history and are probably considered the third most important in the industry.

6. The Grabby Awards. These are held in Chicago during the IML weekend and are put on by Gay Chicago Magazine. These awards are given out at a lavish show usually hosted by Chi Chi LaRue and Honey West. They are the second most important awards show and carry a great deal of prestige. Winners at the Grabbys have serious boasting rights.

7. The GAYVNS. These are the Oscars of the gay porn world and are the undisputed grand prize of the awards season. Held in February, the GAYVNS are now taking place in San Francisco. Studios vie for awards at a huge show where thousands of fans and industry insiders gather for the once-a-year event. Kathy Griffin hosted last year's awards, and Michael Lucas swept the show with his "La Dolce Vita."

So there you have it--a rundown of the horse race for Top Studio. As soon as I get the full results of the David Awards I will start the count here on this blog. Watch over the next few months to see what happens and who comes out on top!

Folsom Street Fair in Crisis

Today I received an email from one of our competitors begging us to help protect the Folsom Street Fair against a national onslaught from Christian Conservatives. The big stink was started when the current SMMILE board of directors decided to put out an attention-grabbing poster that was a spoof of Da Vinci's Last Supper. The bread and wine of Jesus was replaced with S/M ass play toys. This is the same board of directors that has ostracized a good part of the South of Market community to the point that lawyers are now involved. Money raised for charity is now being used to pay for legal fees.

With their unnecessary salvo against the Christian Right, the people who currently run the Folsom Street Fair have swatted a hornet nest that could have been left alone. Why did they deliberately set out to start a fight? Calmer heads clearly did not prevail. They seem to have an aggressive, in-your-face mentality--the kind of outlook that stands in contrast to an organization that was founded in part to help heal divides and promote community cooperation.

The email I received asked everyone to call Miller Beer and voice support for the Fair and for Gays in general. I would hope that Miller Beer does continue to support the fair, but I also hope that as a main corporate sponsor of the event, they can have some influence over the current board and redirect the event back to what it was always supposed to be--a street fair for the whole leather community.

Meanwhile, Dark Alley Media has just released their new movie--Passeo. It is a hardcore sex retelling of the life of Jesus. No doubt the christians will grab on to this as well. Together, Dark Alley and SMMILE have given the right wing enough ammunition to potentially impact the next election in a way that will set back the cause of universal gay rights for years. Just today the most popular news item on the AP news-wire was an article entitled "Miller, the Jesus-Mocking Beer" written by right-winger Brent Bozell. Fox news has also picked up the story. No doubt footage from the fair will soon be seen on Bill O'Reilly. Will SMMILE become the new Terri Shiavo--red meat for the right wing base? Just remember this--when you piss off a group of people really bad, you can never win them over to your side. This is a time when health care and Iraq should be dominant issues for debate, not "look how evil gays are."

No one--not me, not you, not the Christian right--likes to be the butt of ridicule and disrespect. Grabbing a moment of attention is not worth the long-term damage to our whole community. The S.S. SMMILE clearly needs to chart a new course, perhaps with a new captain.

Cal-OSHA begins Porn Set Inspections

X-Biz magazine reported today that Cal-OSHA, the state agency responsible for work place safety, began inspections of porn sets to insure that actors were not being asked to participate in unsafe sex acts or other activities that might be considered dangerous. The studio inspected, Naughty America, is a large straight company. Considerable debate has raged on the gay side of the industry as more companies are moving towards filming bareback sex, a clear violation of Cal-OSHA regulations. Companies can be fined as much as $1000 per day per employee for violations, and in worse case situations companies can be shut down. My own advice to my fellow porn studios is to play it safe in every sense of the word!
